Pane carasau, which is also referred to as carta da musica (music paper) or pane carasatu, is Sardinia's most typical and traditional form of bread.
Today, pane carasau is known all around the world and is still produced using the simple, natural ingredients of water and flour.
Pane carasau remains delicately crunchy for several months without the use of any preservatives.
One common variant of this type of bread is "pane guttiau", which is pane carasau with the addition of extra-virgin olive oil.
Over recent years, pane guttiau has become the number one Sardinian snack. The famous sfogliatine di Su Guttiau, a crunchy puff-pastry, is the modern interpretation of traditional Sardinian pane carasau.
