Spices and saffron

Sardinia is a fragrant, colourful land with rich traditions. Today, Sardinia is Italy's main producer of saffron. Since 2007, Sardinian Saffron has been certified as a PDO (Protected Denomination of Origin) product.

SARDISSIMO has selected three leading brands of saffron - Itria, Sirissi and Zafferano di Sardegna DOP - all of which are guaranteed by Zafferano di Turri S.n.c., a company on the island that is a certified producer of Zafferano di Sardegna DOP (PDO Sardinian Saffron).

Oregano is another typical Sardinian spice.
Sardinian oregano grows wild in the island's mountainous areas and is cultivated on the plains of Turri, where the ideal climate and fertile soil, combined with the time-honoured experience of the farmers, make for a very high-quality product.

Sardinia is also a major producer of cayenne pepper.
The cayenne pepper cultivated in Sardinia is particularly spicy and has an intense fragrance redolent of the island.
