Cannonau is the red wine that perhaps more than any other evokes the essence of Sardinia - its ancient traditions and its welcoming hospitality. The Cannonau grape is cultivated throughout Sardinia (the relative DOC zone covers the entire island), but gives of its very best in the interior, especially in the mountainous province of Ogliastra.
The refined aroma and flavour offered up by Cannonau varies between different areas. The wine displays excellent structure and the fragrance can be reminiscent of flesh flowers or berries, tending with age towards jamminess. The riserva (fortified) version delivers warm, spicy undertones
